The story of my dog

I am married to the wonderful man Patrick for about twenty two years now. I have two beautiful daughters Thaina who is 20 years old and Patrice who is 16. I have a lovely dog Roshaynee whom I adore. Since my children were at a very young age they have been asking me for a dog. I never had nothing against dogs indeed I think they are very cool animal, however, from my culture they are treated differently than dogs in America. I was born and raised in the Caribbean where almost every family has a dog but their purpose is mainly for protection for their owners. They always stay in the backyard and get less attention than those dogs here therefore I was a little hesitant to agree and allowing my kids to get a dog because I wasn’t raised giving them so much attention nor spending money on them. I have always told them no when they asked the question.  Seven months ago my husband who is from the same culture as I decided to give my children a chance, he told them yes they can have a dog.  He also told them they have to take care of her, and they both agreed they were very happy about that.

I was still a little reluctant but since he had already told them yes I decided to set many new rules in the house. When they got the little creature it was the most beautiful thing I had never seen, she is very pretty white with some scattered black spots she is a Saint Bernard mixed. She was about six weeks old when she got to the house she is really cute. At first I never felt comfortable touching her or letting her come closer to me even though she was very young I was really scared of her.  As I was getting used to her in the house I have seen myself approaching her and touching her, playing with her. As days are going by I was getting more comfortable with her. I started to break my own rules which I had set. I cleaned after she poops. I take her out for walks; I even spend my money on her to get her up to date with her shots. I am really involved now. All of the sudden I realized my bias have disappeared. I even dream about my dog I feel like she is an important part of my family now.
